Reviews
The books in this series are practical, informative, and delightful. They select and analyze particular elements in the painting as introductions to background of the artist and the period, as well as taking you in-depth for surprises and discoveries inherent, yet potentially overlooked in the piece. I read this, Raphael's The School of Athens, and Caravaggio's Matthew series before going to Rome to see these works in situ...and each greatly enhanced my sense of wonder, understanding, and appreciation of these works. An excellent series.
