Review Praise for John Berger and Selçuk Demirel “John Berger writes about what is important, not just interesting. In contemporary English letters he seems to me peerless; not since Lawrence has there been a writer who offers such attentiveness to the sensual world.”—Susan Sontag “In his ceaselessly inventive work, Selçuk often uses parts of the body in ways that are characteristically Turkish...as if the comedy of the human condition were there in the human body, in the melancholy of anatomy.”—John Berger Praise for Cataract “I love this small book of intricate insight.”—Michael Ondaatje Read more About the Author John Berger (1926–2017), storyteller, essayist, screenwriter, dramatist, and critic, was one of the most internationally influential writers of the last fifty years. Reviews
This collection of quotes from John Berger disappointed me because I know his writing and bought the book for this reason and because I was interested in the collaboration between the writer and the illustrator. However, the book was completed after his death and without his input as to the selection of the quotes. The quotes are not the best of his writing and the illustrator's imagery is cliche. The worst part is that the book was printed with an ink that has a very strong disagreeable odor that actually bothers my eyes. I thought it was something that would evaporate off, but it has not. Am hoping it is not too late to return it.
